History Quotes Transcripts_1999 Transcripts_2001 History of the Conference Our inaugural conference in October 1999 brought together top Illustrators,
educators, representatives and art buyers to explore "The Future of
Illustration." This event was the first national caucus for illustrators and
was an overwhelming success, selling out at 500+ attendees. Through
discussion and presentations we launched what has become an ongoing
networking and information exchange among professional illustrators,
clients, students, educators, and colleagues in related fields such as
photography and design. Our second conference, "Effecting Change," followed in June 2001.
This event went beyond reexamining the industry concerns and issues
identified at our first conference, to protect our works through copyright
and negotiation, and to promote our power to create and utilize new markets. Mission Statement The Illustration Conference (ICON) is a 501 C-6 nonprofit organization of
illustrators and is an entity in itself. Our purpose is to provide a
platform for illustrators to address, in a timely manner, the most pervasive
issues and ideas facing the profession. The Illustration conference is
committed to providing a stage for an ongoing dialogue that serves the whole
industry.
