From 1965 through 1987 Richard (Dick) Weisgrau was a professional photographer. He joined ASMP, American Society of Media Photographers in 1973 and was elected to its board in 1976, serving through 1982, and again in 1986 and 1987. He served as the executive director of ASMP from 1988 through 2002. During these periods he was heavily involved in all major creators' issues. He helped pioneer the first photographer owned, online stock agency, MIRA.com. He has written and lectured on a wide range of topics and issues of concern to creators. Today, he is back to his roots, making photographs with the addition of writing. Continuing to have great concern about the forces that threaten creators' livelihoods and creativity, he remains committed to working for fair treatment of professional creators.
