Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Have been wanting to be a cartoonist ever since. Public schooling led to a scholarship to what now is the University of the Arts which I attended as often as was possible.

Commenced freelancing in 1951 and continue to do so. Married to former Caroline Wingfield. Working closely together, we produced two sons. We have lived and worked in Philadelphia, London, England, Princeton, NJ, and now in New York City.

I play the saxophone whether people want me to or not.
