"The thing about illustration is that it has more personality than design. I love images and I love to work with type and love to put them together. Everything seems to work in cycles, so it's hard to tell that everything that's happened comes back again. The styles change and somehow they emerge. "

Expanded Industry Sessions
Catch up on all the latest news and developments in the Industry sessions. The industry update sessions will reflect the most pressing issues that face illustrators today. Learn what has happened since the last conference and review topics such as anti-trust, reprographics, copyright, responsible image licensing, the fiscal realities of our times, collective bargaining, pending introduction of legislation, and other important issues that affect all of us as illustrators.

This is the only event that brings the entire industry of illustrators together to debate, inform and inspire as we move ahead with the challenges that face us.

From the Board of the Illustration Conference
It is with deep sadness that we have learned of dear Harriet Kasak's passing. Harriet was widely recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and personable figures in the field of Children's publishing. It was for that reason that this board chose her as an advisor. She was a warm and lovely person and will be greatly missed by all.

With sympathy,
The ICON 3 Board,
Cathie Bleck, President

Sad Loss/ Illustrator Designer Brant Day
Brant Day, recognized Illustrator and designer from Suwanee, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 8th. He suffered a heart attack right before his black belt test in Tae Kwon Do. He did a lot of work as a designer for the first illustration conference and we were grateful for his time and talents then, and we mourn his loss now...

Sell out crowd in Philadelphia
More than 570 people attended ICON3 making this year's event the biggest ever! Thanks to all of the attendees, speakers, staff and sponsors that helped us make this conference a remarkable experience.

Here are pictures and some sketches by the one and only Steve Brodner that capture the spirit of our event.

Paula Lerner has posted some great photographs on her site: http://lernerphoto.com/icon/. Describing these photos Paula wrote: "Lately I have been using my digital camera like a sketch pad, and experimenting with the technique of using a slow shutter speed to get an impressionistic kind of image."

In the coming months we will be posting transcripts as well as information about the next event, so stay tuned!

Student Dorm Rooms
Accommodations are available at The University of the Arts for students registered for the Illustration Conference, ICON3, June 27, 28 and 29, 2003. Seventy rooms will be available in the newly renovated 311 Juniper Street residence located two blocks from campus.
